Noell is hard at work on her blog that is WAY more than a blog! It's also has scrapbooking video tutorials, audio interviews, regular scrapbooking blog articles, and live-streaming video internet crops. Who could ask for more?
1. Name: Noell Hyman
2. City you live in: Mesa, AZ
3. How and when did you start scrapbooking?
I began scrapbooking with industry products eleven years ago. But I also scrapbooked "the old way" since I was a kid. I have always saved ephemera in order to share more of my life than just the photos. I also began journaling when I was only seven. I now regard my scrapbooking as a combination of all those things: a sort of visual journaling or autobiography.
My husband and I began Paperclipping just over a year ago.
4. What do you love about making art?
I love the quiet solitude of being with my creative thoughts. I love trying to solve the puzzle of achieving balance and something that feels complete. I love telling my stories. The whole process of sitting down to create a scrapbook page is a spiritual experience for me.
5. Do you have an area dedicated to your craft?
Right now I have a corner of my bedroom and part of my bedroom closet. The plan, though, is to move into our office where my husband does the editing for our shows. It'll be interesting to see how it goes to share that room with him!
6. How do your family and friend react to your craft?
They are all so positive when I show them my pages or give them a minibook as a gift. They're really good at convincing me that they like my stuff!
7. Do you have a favorite item that you created?
No. I'm just happy when I make something that I feel really expresses how I feel inside. Together Again and Little Gypsy. Or when we produce a video that hits home for a lot of people and fills a need. Some of the most popular epsidoes are Layering Embellishments, Spice Up Your Prima Flowers and the Premium Episode, Schoolwork Scrapbook Tutorial.
8. When do you usually create?
Whenever I have a spare moment. My table is never clean. There is always a project in progress (usually three or four) on the table that I play with in-between my other responsibilities. It seems I am always thinking and breathing scrapbooking all the time.
But I do have a regular schedule for scrapbooking, blogging, and podcasting. I scrapbook and blog in the mornings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays when all my kids are in school. I scrapbook when my preschooler is napping. I scrapbook live on camrea for my internet audience on Tuesday evenings. And my husband and I tape our shows on Saturdays.
9. Do you ever see yourself NOT creating?
No. Never. Not unless I'm dead.
10. What other crafts/hobbies do you have/do?
I'm interested in photography. I am a published writer, but not an extremely good one. I am trying to improve my writing skills. I love reading, both fiction and non-fiction. I like to follow certain areas of scientific development, especially neuro-science and evolution. I also enjoy a little bit of painting, but this is an area I want to develop more in the future.
11. Do you have any upcoming events that you would like to share with ushere?
Paperclipping Live is every Tuesday night, 5:30pm PST for one to one-and-a-half hours.
12. How do you stay motivated?
Fortunately, staying motivated is not an issue for me. Scrapbooking is like breathing. I feel a drive to do it all the time. If I can't scrapbook for a period of time the motivation fades a little, but all it takes is me sitting down to do it once and I'm back in breathing mode again. It's one of the two things in my life that I most love to do (the other is dancing).
13. Where do you get your motivation/inspiration?
Anything aesthetically pleasing inspires me: fashion, interior decorating, all forms of the visual arts, dance and music, graphic design, and other scrapbookers.
14. Do you personally have a favorite artist?
I love collage artist, Lisa Congdon. Her images inspire me. I have a set of paintings from a contemporary artist, Osnat, who is one of my very favorites. Both of these women are up-and-coming artists who are making a name for themselves.
In terms of scrapbooking, Ali Edwards is my favorite and has been the most influential for me. I had a wonderful time interviewing her recently for one of my podcasts about her recent book and the one she is currently writing. Wilna Furstenburg and Jamie Waters have also had a large influence on me, and more recently, Mou Saha.
15. What is your favorite blog?
Whenever I get online, it's always Ali Edwards' blog I'm hoping will be updated.

I absolutely LOVE Noell. Her podcast is done with a true love for what she does, and you can see she is really motivated to share that love for the craft with other people. Thank you for all that you do for the scrapbooking community Noell. :) I just wish Noell had her own TV show or SB book, or something to get her out there more than the podcast. (sorry Noell, don't mean to give you even more work to do, I just love seeing your work and I always feel inspired by you!). Noell is a natural at teaching and inspiring people! :)
